IPL-7 auction: Karn Sharma and Rishi Dhawan hit the jackpot
This was the first time uncapped players were brought into the IPL auction.

Karn Sharma and Rishi Dhawan hit the jackpot on the second day of the 2014 auction in Bangalore ahead of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League as they attracted the most high-value bids. There was also something to cheer for New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor, who was bought at his base price of Rs 2 crore by Delhi Daredevils on Thursday. Mahela Jayawardene and S Badrinath, however, had to suffer the ignominy of going unsold.
Sharma, who had a base price of Rs.30 lakh, ended up with a purse of Rs.3.75 crore as his 2013 team Sunrisers Hyderabad outbid Kings XI Punjab. However, Kings XI bagged all-rounder Dhawan (base price Rs.20 lakh) for Rs.3 crore after a battle with Sunrisers.
Good performances in the just-concluded Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup matches were also rewarded. Delhi Daredevils picked up Maharashtra’s Kedar Jadhav for Rs.2 crore and Mayank Agarwal of Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka for Rs.1.6 crore while his team-mate Lokesh Rahul earned a Rs.1 crore contract with Sunrisers.
Delhi all-rounder Rajat Bhatia was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs.1.7 crore while Chennai Super Kings successfully bid Rs.1.5 crore for Madhya Pradesh fast bowler Ishwar Pandey, who was in the squad for the away ODI series in New Zealand, but failed to make the playing eleven.

The other big winners after the initial rounds of bidding were Manish Pandey (Rs 1.70 crore Kolkata Knight Riders), Aditya Tare (Rs 1.60 crore, Mumbai Indians), Gurkeerat Singh (Rs 1.30 crore, Kings XI Punjab), Parveez Rasool (Rs 95 lakh, Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Unmukt Chand (Rs 65 lakh, Rajasthan Royals).
All-rounder Rasool scored 594 runs from seven matches at an average of 54 including two centuries in the last Ranji season. He also took 33 wickets at an average of 18 with three five-wicket hauls. The 25-year-old had become the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be a part of the IPL when he bagged a contract with the now-discarded Pune Warriors last season.
Promising pacer Jasprit Bumrah was bought by his previous team Mumbai for Rs 1.20 crore. The 20-year-old has played 11 Twenty20 matches, taking 13 wickets.
All-rounder Mandeep Singh, former vice-captain of the Indian Under-19 team, was grabbed for Rs 80 lakh by Kings XI Punjab through the 'Right to Match' provision. The 22-year-old had been a part of the franchise earlier as well.

Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate, was bought back by Kolkata Knight Riders for the base price of Rs 1 crore and West Indies fast bowler Kevon Cooper went back to the Royals for a base price of Rs 30 lakh.
This was the first time uncapped players were brought into the auction - a move welcomed by all franchises who said it provided a level-playing field for everyone in the wake of the controversies in the past seasons when teams would lure players with under-the-table deals and offers.
South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell, who went unsold Wednesday, was snapped up by Delhi Daredevils at his base price of Rs.1 crore; while veteran left-arm spinner Murali Karthik was bought by Kings XI at his base price of Rs.1 crore.
