Asus has announced that 10,000 units of its ZenFone 5 smartphone will be up for sale on Saturday on Flipkart, the company's exclusive online retail partner.
Unfortunately, the company did not reveal the exact split between storage variants, with no mention of how many units of the ZenFone 5 8GB and how many units of the ZenFone 5 16GB will go on sale via the ecommerce website. Both the ZenFone 5 variants have been listed on Flipkart as 'out of stock' for a few weeks.
The Asus ZenFone 5 was launched alongside the ZenFone 4 (Review | Pictures) and ZenFone 6 last month. The ZenFone 5 (8GB) was unveiled at Rs. 9,999, while the 16GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 12,999.
The ZenFone 5 features a 5-inch 720x1280 pixel IPS display; a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Hyper-Threading technology (implying 4 threads); 2GB of RAM; an 8-megapixel rear camera; a 2-megapixel front facing camera; 8GB/16GB inbuilt storage; expandable storage via microSD card (up to 64GB), and a 2110mAh battery.
The Taiwanese giant claimed that it sold 40,000 units of the ZenFone series within 4 days of its debut in the country. The highlight of the ZenFone smartphones was the company's ZenUI skin which runs on top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The company has already revealed that the Android 4.4 KitKat update for ZenFone series is already on the company's to do list.
Earlier this week, Asus announced a firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update for the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 (Review | Pictures) smartphones. The company revealed the detailed changelog of the firmware updates for the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 that included enhanced third-party app compatibility, improved stability of the system UI, as well as an increase in the brightness of the LED flash while clicking pictures.
